Resolved Question: November and Japanese Maple losing all of its leaves. Little black bugs seen?
HELP! I have a Toyama Nishiki Japanese maple located in the North Georgia area. I planted the tree in April. The tag says it’s a “size 1.” My tree is between 2 and 3 feet tall from base to highest leaf. Over the last week or two I started to notice the leaves turning bright yellow and red just as other trees are since it is November. THEN I started to notice the leaves shedding on November 3rd. I checked it again on November 7th and even more leaves are gone! The tree has always had little black spots on the branches which I thought were regular color variation, but now with the leaves falling off (as of today 90% of the leaves are gone!!!), I have started to worry. On November 7th I spoke to someone at Home Depot and they told me the tree had mites. I didn’t see any bugs before I went to the hardware store, but it turns out I didn’t look close enough. When I got back I did a close visual inspection of the tree and saw little black bugs on the outter leaves. If I am not mistaken I think they could fly too. The outside leaves DID start falling off first. I’m almost thinking the black bugs worked their way from the outer leaves to the middle of the tree! Per the Home Depot gardener’s reccommendation, I bough some Sevin and sprayed the leaves and got rid of the black bugs. I went over the tree by hand and removed and destroyed every bug I saw by hand. I also fed the tree a systemic treatment I use on my roses to help heal him from the inside out. The tree still appears green and from breaking off a tip of a small branch he is still quite green in his insides so I know that is a good sign. Do Toyama Nishiki’s lose their leaves in the fall? Did the fall leaf loss happen to coincide with me discovering the bugs and now I am second-guessing the black spots on the branches? I’ve never had any problems with this tree and have never used pestiside on it until Saturday. I’m so worried and feel bad for not catching the bugs earlier. I’ll never forgive myself if anything happens to my poor baby tree. I’m hoping the leaf loss is cyclical and leaves will come back in spring. Please advise!

Resolved Question: What rights does DFCS in Georgia have on investigating my children?
Well, to start it off, my 5 year old daughter has a bruise on her leg from when she was playing outside. She went to school today and the teacher assumed that she was beat by one of the parents. She called DFCS and they came to the school, took pictures of my daughter’s leg without my consent and questioned her. They came to my house today as well and said they will hold an investigation of our house and home on Thursday. I do spank my daughter, but rarely, and never hard, if this helps any in my case.

Now, I’m wondering, do they have the right to investigate my daughter at school, take pictures of her, and then come to my house and look around for anything ‘unsuitable for children?’ They’re going to investigate our house and basically do a complete inspection of the house.

Also, I’m in the military and I’m sure my career is going to be jeopardized if this proceeds under false proof.
False proof being that cannot prove that I beat her to create that bruise. She’s a very active child. She plays outside, rides her bike, falls off her bike, etc. She also has a younger sister just a year younger than her, in which they get into fights, just like brother and sister do.

She’s not neglected in any way. I love her with all my heart and I don’t want her to get taken away for a simple misunderstanding. You cannot tell me that you never got a bruise when you were younger, especially at 5 years old.

I have a general idea of what might happen if I refuse them access to my house.

Although, I’m reading up on it and when someone reports suspected abuse to the DFCS, it goes in their system anonymously. I cannot sue the person if I do not know who they are. However, can I sue the DFCS for all the trouble they may cause for a false report?
Apollo, you obviously know nothing of rights as an american and right as a parent. Go read the constitution and tell me again that this child is not mine.
