Open Question: mold removal in an attic?
in the process of buying a house. There is a little bit of mold in the attic due to poor ventilation of shower (about a 3 square foot area). The mold inspector told us that is the only mold in the house, and it should be an easy fix. We are fairly handy, and fixing the ventilation will be easy. But then, we have to remove the existing mold and likely want to put something on it as a preventative. The mold inspector told us that the product that you put on the wood costs around $400 for us to buy it and then roll it on. I have been searching online and can’t find such a product. So my questions is, what do I need to get to remove this mold issue and any sort of preventative, and how much is it going to cost me? Since we are in th process of buying this house, we are going to get a credit for whatever money it takes to fix this problem.

Open Question: Backing out of buying this house- can I ?
We are buying a house. We took a look at it and it seemed ok. The roof was replaced because of the hurricane, and the house sustained water damage. The roof was repaired, but the sheetrock as wavy in a few places. When we looked in the garage there were a lot of holes cut into the ceiling and walls. I knew we would have to gut and replace the drywall and insulation, and that was ok with us. We wrote a check for earnest money, and put a 100 check down on the inspection clause (if after an inspection there is a problem we can back out) and signed those papers. When I was telling someone about replacing the sheet rock they asked me about mold. If the sheet rock was still there and warped from water damage, then obviously the insulation behind it never got to dry out completely and surely there is mold there. This is he ENTIRE garage and in nearly every room of the house there are patches of wavy sheetrock in the ceiling. I feel that there IS definitely mold damage and that we are wasting 300 dollars paying for an inspector to tell us he fond a mountain of mold in the attic- and if its there, its most likely in the walls too. Can we ask to take a look in the attic BEFORE the inspector comes and if we find mold then can we back out before having to pay the inspector?I live in texas and there is full disclosure here- they didnt tell us anything about mold, though we didnt ask, and didnt check the attic. Or do we have to spend the money, wait for the answer and then back out?

Open Question: Water damaged and moldy plaster ceiling?
I think I posted this to the wrong category earlier. Any help would be appreciated.

I bought a house and have been renovating it. When I removed a drop ceiling from a bedroom, I found an extremely damaged (pieces missing, cracks, holes, you name it) plaster ceiling with what I suspect is black mold on it (the damage and mold were missed by the home inspector). The roof is not an issue, the ceiling doesn’t leak anymore. I suspect the plaster ceiling was in such bad shape the old owners just put a drop ceiling in to cover it and made sure the roof was okay.

Obviously in the name of saving money I’d like to repair this myself if possible, any thoughts on how to fix this up or should I just hire a pro? I’m relatively handy and have done all the renovations by myself up to this point, except electric/plumbing, including hanging drywall. I was thinking of using furring strips and hanging and taping drywall (after mold removal) instead of fixing the plaster. Thanks.
