Resolved Question: Bad House Repairs updates..?
I posted a question a couple of days ago. About a bad home repair in my MIL house. As per contract, the scoop of work includes, remove and replace damage flooring in kitchen and bathroom. Our complain was the kitchen sub-floor is not level. It’s sloping in the middle. The size of the kitchen floor is 10×9. The sloping area is off like and inch an a quarter. The inspector from county licensing office here in South Carolina said yes it’s off. But they have to pass the work from their inspection, and saying the contractor didn’t apply permit on replacing floor.(Only for works done in the crawlspace. He lied in his permit). Now what can we do? We know a quarter of and inch off is ok. But 1.25 inches? Who we can turn to besides suing the contractor? Please I need sensible answers.
In the contract, there’s a part where it says careful leveling of the floor. But he said it’s only for bathroom part. He was hired for two reasons, to fix the sloping floor which is sloping in the beginning and there’s water and termite damage.

Voting Question: catch 22, we need help?
we have a now illegal car because the registration is taking too damn long to process. we’ve sent in the paperwork a half a year ago. september, it is now february. he HAD unpaid fines that we paid off but the court made an error and he had a warrant out that got thrown out once the situation was corrected. but because of THEIR **** up, and a pull over due to not having an inspection on the car, he got busted driving without a license, (that he wasn’t even aware of, no notice, no phone call, no letter NOTHING)

so, he gets pulled over without a license in between the **** up and the correction…. but it’s on his record now anyways. they tell us they corrected everything, so he goes out again…. gets pulled over for some other stupid reason or other, and low and behold (oh, they ****** up again, and now has ANOTHER mark on his record)

so, he can’t drive, we have two kids and i have to stay at home with the kids. and can’t get my license to due medical reasons (vision problems)

so, since there is no public transportation and the neighborhood he works in is known to be unsafe (ruling out walking) how on earth is he going to be able to work a 3pm - 11:30 pm job when the kids go to bed at 8 or 9. the car we drive is illegal because the Department of Transportation cannot respond in any manner. and we cannot afford a taxi….

any ideas? i’m out.

we need money to pay, but need to pay to get money… we’re screwed
oye vey, you’re logic is undeniable… since i never said where i’m from, i must never have tried to do anything about my situation, wow! you’re just so right, silly me.
and remember, we’re poor… so no AAA for us. we can’t even afford real insurance. just liability… (sometimes)

when you got to chose between groceries and car insurance…. groceries win out.

Resolved Question: I own a R1 zoned home in Philadelphia and want to rent it to a group of 8 people.?
The home I own is HUGE- the property is on an acre of land and has plenty of parking for the 4 cars the group has. However, because the home is zoned R1 housing, I don’t know if I can legally rent it to a group of 8 unrelated people.

The lease would be written to the head of the group who would then pay me the collective rent every month. I have had Licenses and Inspections come to my home twice over the last year to search my home, but it is currently empty so I haven’t had any problems. My neighbors are very adamant about me NOT renting the home to a group of 8 people, but instead renting to a family. The problem is after two years I STILL cannot find a family that can afford the rent for the home.

I have tried to get the zoning changed, but the city of philadelphia will not let me change it. Should I just rent to this group?
