Open Question: If a used car dealership lies about the car do I have any options or am I screwed?
Last March I purchased a 1999 Jeep Wrangler. The odometer read 115,XXX miles. I did a carfax report and it had never been in an accident and was registered in central Florida all its life to a Pizza restaurant so I assumed it was the delivery vehicle, explaining the high mileage. I had it thoroughly inspected by a neutral mechanic, and he told me that it just needed a tune up. So, I bit the bullet and financed it through the dealerships credit program (this is a small used car dealership in Key West Fl, not any big dealership). Long story short, last month I took it in for a routine oil change in Tampa, where I just moved, and while driving home the motor started smoking badly. So I turned around and went back to the mechanic. He put it on the lift and figured out that the motor was from a 1981-1985 model Jeep wrangler and in the spot where a mechanical fuel pump should be someone has bolted a 4-inch square piece of rubber on the motor to hold the oil in. So, not only is the motor not the original motor but who ever changed it did a crappy job of it. I do have an extended warranty for roughly 8,000 more miles or till next March. Since the dealership lied about the odometer reading isn’t that a breach of contract? Do I have any right to sue to get my money back? Can I return the car for every penny I have put into it? What can I do? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.
Also after buying from that dealership I found out through word of mouth that they were known to sell lemons. Thieves.
Open Question: How should I negotiate to get this car? Offer more?
Ok, here’s the situation:
I found a 96 Honda Accord listed on Autotrader for $3790. It’s a GREAT car for the price: clean title, dealer maintained (even saw records!), one owner, fresh paint job, low mileage (105,000). I offered $3700 cash to the owner if I could take it home yesterday but she wanted to get it smogged first the following Monday (tomorrow) and also has another interested buyer who wants the car inspected tomorrow as well. She told me straight up that if the potential buyer is okay with the inspection, that she would probably sell it to them. I want that car badly and am willing to pay a little more for it.
My question is: How should I go about negotiating with her at this point? She is over 50 miles away. Should I call her today and offer her more over the phone or do I just have to sit at home and cross my fingers. I don’t know much about negotiating “ethics” so please, help!
Thanks!
I’m in CA, it is the seller’s responsibility to provide the buyer with a Smog certificate that is less than 90 days old when selling the car. The law makes no provision for “as is” sales in this matter.
Please just answer my question.
Open Question: Cat behavior Advice please?
I has a kitty. well more like an adult cat probably around 4 years old..not sure of his age. Anyway…I have had him for 2 years..and its silly but I have never left him over night by himself for the whole time i have had him. And it was nearing on 2 nights. So I get back tonight..had a family friend to feed him..first he is like omfg shes home shes home….i pick him up and he never purrs when being picked up..then feed him..he goes feed. Goes outside to do his business because he hates kitty boxes. And he comes in..and is inspecting the house….then comes into me and wants a bit of sookie time so he sits on my lap..and now he has gone mental. Now he is a mental cat by nature but this is going on for a while..its kinda hillarious coz he is in a see throough box and attacks it when something goes near…
but Im curious why this zany beahaviour. I understand cats play but This one gets distracted by other shiny things.;_
