Resolved Question: I live in condominium how to deal with association?
I live in condominium on the first floor, last year during the winter three big wet spats appeared on the ceiling of our apartment in the middle of the living room. After calling the association a manager come and told us that they will do inspection. The watery spots are cost by construction problem of the second floor balcony. The management of the association promised us that they will work hard to resolve the problem. After a year the problem appeared again even worst. I am afraid that inside that ceiling may have mold already. The association is doing nothing, no cooperation, they give us hard time. What do I do in this case, I have 2 year old who live in this environment.
Resolved Question: Isn’t most mold inspection and remediation a scam.?
Home inspectors always seem to find some evidence of mold and refer buyers to another company. They charge buyers even more money and always find mold. They then extort more money from the sellers for some phony remediation. Buyers and sellers get screwed, home inspectors make money from kickbacks and mold companies laugh their way to the bank. The truth is mold is everywhere! True “toxic mold” is very, very rare.
I’m sure mold might be more of a problem in warm climates like TX and FL but in northern climates where there isn’t the high heat and humidity mold growth is minimal. I think this is sounds more like a form of “protection racket” and it would not suprise me that organized crime was involved.

Voting Question: What can I do about a lemon of a house under Ohio law?
We purchased a house a little over a year ago. Despite having inspections done and disclosures filled out by the sellers, we have run into several major problems with the house. We have had to have mold remediation, redo a bathroom that was supposedly just remodeled, replace leaking windows, fix leaking pipes, and now have water leaking into the house from a roof that was not put on correctly. We asked all of the right questions before purchasing and were assured by the realtors, sellers, and inspectors that we would not incur such problems. What kind of recourse, if any, do we have in this situation?

Let me add: These problems started immediately after we purchased the house and many were quite obvious once we took possession. We have just been dealing with them for over a year. We owned our previous home for several years and understand home ownership.
I did speak with the home inspector long ago and he just said he can’t see through walls. Two for instances: 1. There was a small patch of mold that he assured us was very localized. We had to have three walls removed and mold remediation done. 2. We saw some drywall damage that we thought may have been from a leaking roof. The inspector assured us it had been repaired prior and that we would not need a new roof for at least 3-5 years. The roof leaked in the same place (into the house) and multiple roofing companies have told us that the flashing was obviously installed incorrectly on the whole roof and that is what is causing leaking and will likely cause more.
